Chicago Music Association (CMA) Branch No.1, The National Association of Negro Musicians, since 1919, is a not-for-profit organization comprised of more than 40 musicians and patrons of the arts of varied age groups from the greater Chicagoland area. Founded in 1919, CMA was organized to provide a performance venue for classically trained Black musicians who were traditionallyy denied access to major concert halls and opera houses throughout the country. CMA presents several major concerts annually that are free of charge and one major fund-raising concert during the summuer months. The concerts traditionally present a variety of music with emphasis on works by Black composers. Performers of various ages and levels of performance, ranging from junior and youth performers to emerging and established artists are presented. Our concerts allow audiences of all ages and financial means to enjoy outstanding arts-related performances and events free of charge.
